New Reception Class – September 2020
Welcome to St Oswald’s Catholic Primary School!
This is a dedicated page for the children and their parents due to join our school family in September 2020. Due to the unusual times we currently find ourselves in, our induction programme will differ this year to previous years and could evolve as the Government’s guidance and our circumstances change. We will of course be contacting parents individually but will also use this page as a ‘notice board’ to keep you updated on induction and to introduce you to life at St Oswald’s.
24 July 2020
Hello to you all,
It has been so lovely to speak with your parents and nursery settings over the past few weeks. I have found out lots and lots about you, particularly the things that you love to play with. I hope you have all received my ‘surprise’ note in the post this week! I thought it would be nice for you all to know what we all look like and find out a little bit about us! If you haven’t received it, it should be on its way to you!
You will be coming into school for one afternoon in September to come and say hello to me, Mrs Fox and Oswald the bear. We will play with some of the toys in our classroom and, if the weather is nice, we will go outdoors and visit our woodland area and school garden. I think you will really enjoy our outdoor space. Our school is very lucky as we have beautiful gardens and a very big field to play on. After spending an afternoon with us, you will start school full time on Monday 21st September 2020. You will learn lots of new routines and make some lovely friends. I am really looking forward to helping you learn lots at school.
A little message for parents and carers:
An email has been sent to you informing you of the date of the afternoon session that your child can attend school for a ‘taster’ session. This session will give the children the chance to meet the adults they will be working with and to spend time in their new classroom.
There is a download available on this page of a little activity that you can complete with your child to help them prepare for school (All about Me). It is designed to make the child feel comfortable knowing that we already know a little bit about them. This document can be typed into and then please email this to my school email address. I will use this information to help your child to engage in conversations with the adults and other children and will add it to the new Learning Journey.
If you have any queries, you are more than welcome to use my school email (email@example.com) to contact me which will be open from Thursday 3rd September 2020. In the meantime, if you haven’t already, download the school App which will help you to keep up to date with school information!
I am really looking forward to meeting you in September. I have been telling everyone at St Oswald’s about you all and they are also looking forward to welcoming you into our lovely school. I hope you have a lovely summer. Enjoy it and stay safe.

6 July 2020
Below are a number of induction documents which will provide you with a wealth of information in preparation for your child starting school in September 2020. Also below are some documents which we require you to complete and return to the school office before they start school (documents marked *). You can bring these with you when your child attends for their taster session (week commencing 14th September) or alternatively you can email completed forms to firstname.lastname@example.org
You will see that included in the documents below there are instructions on how to download our school app to your mobile device – we strongly recommend that you do this if you can, as the app provides quick links to frequently viewed pages on our website and is also used to send out general messages and reminders. Anyone can have the app, therefore if you are relying on grandparents/family/friends/childminders etc for childcare, they will also receive these general messages. Any personal messages specifically regarding your child will not be sent via the app; these will be sent directly to you by text message.
