Parent Warning – Snapchat Update

Parents and children should be aware that Snapchat have introduced a new feature called the ‘Snap Map’. This location based map allows users to see where in the country their Snapchat contacts are, as well as seeing location based photos and videos. the Snap Map shows a user’s Bitmoji, their cartoon avatar within Snapchat, pinpointed on a world map. Users can then zoom into the map to see the exact location of their friends.

This feature has prompted safeguarding concerns for children – particularly if they have added people they do not actually know to their contacts.
We recommend that Snapchat users – particularly children – switch their settings to ‘Ghost Mode’ which means that only the user can see their own location.
