Hello all,

This week we are taking part in the Warrington Wolves Foundation Sports Day event. Each day there are two challenges and the best result gets sent to the Warrington Wolves who will populate a leader board between schools.

On Tuesday we had another great result winning Gold in the long jump!

We will be taking part within school but you can also take part at home. All you need to do is have a go at the event listed below and send me an email with your results! (y1@stoswaldscatholicprimary.co.uk)

Wednesday

Thursday

Good morning Year 3,

Well done to all of you who have worked hard and completed your home learning tasks this week. I know it’s been hard sometimes to complete all your tasks so I am so proud of you for trying your best during these difficult times.

I can’t believe this is the last week we will have to work at home. I was so pleased when Miss Lennon arranged for you to spend some time in the first two weeks in September with me. I cannot wait to see you all!

This week I have set your maths and English tasks using Purple Mash. There are lots of maths games to help you with your adding, fractions, multiplication and time. There are also some English writing tasks, geography and art to complete.

For your afternoon tasks, I would like you to watch the videos and complete the activities for Bitesize Daily, Year 3, 9th July, How and why singing makes us feel good, and 7th July, Art and Design, Pop art and printing.  Remember you can take photos and show me your creations via email. The finishing date for your work is Friday 17th July so I will look at your work by then.

I hope you all have a great summer break and look forward to seeing you all in September.

Dear Year 3,

Thank you for the hard work you are doing with your home learning. It was lovely to see how well you are doing with My Maths and the Purple Mash activities. I know the Martin Luther King activity was quite hard to do but so interesting to learn about. I loved seeing your collages and was particularly impressed with Scott’s collage. Look closely to find the snail and butterfly!

For this week’s learning we are going to try something different. On My Maths I have set five maths activities and five English activities using lessons from Oak academy. Go into MY Maths where you will be able to see the links for the lessons. I won’t be able to see any of your work but please E mail me and let me know how you enjoyed it, or whether you prefer using My Maths tasks and Purple Mash.

For your afternoon activities, for RE, I would like you to read the story attached about Tom and Jane and discuss with your family the choices and consequences Tom and Jane made. For art, I would like you to use any boxes and bottles in your recycling and build me something exciting. You could also use tins etc. from your kitchen cupboards if you are allowed. You can send me your photos via E mail if you want. Follow the timetable below and I look forward to seeing your work,

Take care,

This is a great opportunity to get outside in the sunshine and try out some of those skills that you would have been able to show off had we have been able to have our sports day.

I have attached a PDF below that explains how to do the challenge, have a look, have a go and send me an email of how you get on! (y1@stoswaldscatholicprimary.co.uk)

Dear Year 3,

I can’t believe another week has flown by. I hope you are all well and enjoying the sunshine (even though it’s a bit cold this week). Thank you to all of you who are continuing with your home learning. I love looking at your work, reading your comments and replying to you.

I have planned 5 My Maths activities, mostly covering time so brush up learning to tell the time. Remember the small hand is the hour hand so start with that first, then work out the minutes. There are also 6 Purple Mash activities (5 English and 1 art).

For your afternoon tasks I would like you to watch the video and learn to draw different faces (Bitesize Daily, Year 3, 15th May, Art and Design) and Bitesize daily, Year 3, 13th May, Science and learn about vertebrates and invertebrates. Watch the videos then you can take the quiz.

There are loads of activities to do on Bitesize so you can extend your learning with any subject when you have time. Remember to send me some photos of your projects and posters. I love seeing your beautiful work and smiling faces.

Dear Parents,

Following many phone calls home over the last 2 weeks, Teachers and myself have picked up requests from parents asking for more direction on the time children should spend on subjects within our home learning programme. In response to this and as we move into week 7 of our lockdown and home learning programme, below are timetable guides for Upper Key Stage 2, Lower Key Stage 2, Key Stage 1 and Early Years. From this week, Teachers will be setting work against these timetables and we hope you will find these detailed plans helpful.

It has been a pleasure chatting to many of you over the last couple of weeks and hearing about the learning that is happening and the routines you have established. I thank you sincerely for working with your child(ren) and understand that this can be extremely difficult, particularly if you have more than one child at home and/or you are trying to balance this with your own home working. Being happy and healthy remains the priority for your children and for us all during these challenging times.

As always, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s Teacher if you need any further help or direction.

Please continue to take care of yourselves and your families and stay safe.

Best wishes,

Miss Lennon

Dear Year 3,

I hope you are all well and keeping yourselves busy. Thank you to those who have completed your tasks…I am very proud of you working so hard.
This week I have set you multiplication for My Maths so learn your tables first to make the tasks easier. I’ve set you a few activities on Purple Mash which you all seem to really enjoy doing. Last week, we posted on the website details of the Sir Linkalot app – it looks great fun for helping with spellings and grammar so why don’t you have a go?

Last week Bitesize set up daily lessons for each year group. You can work through these in your own time if you fancy. I would like you to watch the history prehistoric videos and make a poster. Also listen to the English Allan Ahlberg poem and have a go at reading it yourself. (Just Google Bitesize daily and find year 3 lessons).
Keep up the good work and take care of you and your families,

Please find below some more online resources you may find useful:

The Maths Factor

Carol Vorderman has announced that access to her maths school The Maths Factor will be free while schools are closed (normally £2/week). It’s aimed at 4 to 11-year-olds and is matched to the national curriculum.

Teachers are aware that some children are already using The Maths Factor every day – well done to those children and keep it up!

Sir Linkalot

While we are on lockdown and children are not in the classroom it is quite tricky to teach spellings in the way we usually would at school. We would like you to try a new award winning app that helps children improve their spelling by looking at words and practicing spelling in lots of different ways. The app is called ‘Sir Linkalot’ and schools and parents have kindly been given free access to it to use during school closure time.

Sir Linkalot does not just look at spelling it covers many of the technical requirements of the English curriculum including: vocabulary, homophones, punctuation, grammar, rules and patterns.

How to access the Sir Linkalot app:

  1. Download the app from the App Store.*
  2. Tap on the log icon (for log in) at the top right.
  3. Click on ‘Have an access code?’ and enter the word ‘Free’ as the username and the password.
  4. Choose which bundle you want to try and you’re ready to start!

*There is a problem with downloading Google play Android app at the moment which is being resolved as quickly as possible by the SirLinkalot team. In the meantime you can access the app using a PC/Laptop by typing ‘app.sirlinkalot.org into the browser itself then enter the access code as above.

Religious Education

The Archdiocese of Liverpool has provided the document below containing some activities to support your child’s learning in RE.

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION HOME LEARNING

This work comes from the ‘Come and See’ Religious Education programme which is taught in all Catholic schools in the Archdiocese of Liverpool. The activities aim to keep Religious Education practical and fun. They are in Year groups however, there is no harm in completing other year group work as this will help your child to remember and strengthen their learning.

BBC Bitesize Daily Lessons

Launched this week with three daily lessons for each year group. Lots of celebrities involved in the delivery of the lessons – might be worth a look!

Oak National Academy

From Monday 20 April, parents can access 180 lessons a week for every year group from Reception through to year 10, through a new online platform, Oak National Academy.
