April 2020

Posted on Monday, May 4th, 2020.

Dear Parents, Carers and Friends of St Oswald’s School,

I write to you all again as our country’s lockdown continues.  It is certainly a strange time for us all.  During these most difficult of times please be assured that our children, their families and all within our school community are very much in my and thoughts and I sincerely hope you are all keeping well.  Over the last couple of weeks I have had telephone conversations with a number of parents and was to delighted to hear their happy and upbeat reports on the children – it was very uplifting!  Teachers will now this half term start to make calls home to check that all is well and good and that nobody is struggling to access any of the home learning we are providing.

Our school remains partially open for the children of our parents who are key workers.  The numbers of children in school each day are small and staff have been working in the school on a rota basis to look after the children and serve our key worker families.  The skeleton staff in school continue to do a fantastic job by following strict controls to keep the children socially distant to keep their families and themselves safe in these difficult circumstances.

We now know that the lockdown measures are set to continue for a while longer and at this stage it is impossible to know when we are likely to return to school; so for now we will continue as we are doing and I will keep you updated as and when I am made aware of any changes to our current situation. Although it is difficult to make too many future plans until we have a clearer picture of the timescales we are working towards, please be assured that we are thinking ahead. We will be working with our feeder secondary schools this term to ensure that the transition for Year 6 is well prepared for and although I can’t confirm when inductions for the new Reception September 2020 children will be able to happen, I will be contacting the parents of these children soon to officially welcome them to our school community.

Finally on behalf of all the staff and Governors of St Oswald’s, I once again send to you all my good wishes to remain, strong, positive, happy, calm and safe throughout these most challenging of times.
